Nylon Magazine - Celebrity Skin FIFTEEN YEARS AGO, when Tracie Martyn was a make up artist at the apotheosis of the supermodel era, working with photographers such as Mario Testino and Annie Leibovitz, the fashion industry was a much less healthy place. Models subsisted on champagne and cigarettes (search YouTube for videos of Kate and Christy backstage) instead of coconut water and sprouted quinoa. Martyn was known for encouraging healthy eating habits among catwalkers and to combat the puffy faces and dark circles, began giving pre-shoot facials at her Brooklyn apartment. Word soon spread and eventually Martyn swapped her blush brush for a machine she created dubbed the Resculptor (it delivers a mild, energetic current to the skin via a caliper like wand), opened a salon downtown Manhattan. Now Martyn has a new Lady's Mile address and an eponymous line of natural skincare, and her books are packed with A-list names including Sienna Miller and Liv Tyler who swear by her Absolute Purity Diamond Facial and Red Carpet Facials. While she embraces technology, when it comes to looking camera ready, the facialist still advocates working from the inside out: "I believe in including enough raw fruits and vegetables in the diet, as enzymes are the key to youth and longevity," she says. "You are what you put on your skin so avoid petrochemicals in cosmetics at all costs because they may not only block your pores but pose a threat to your health."
